A Short History

Radio is being redefined by podcasting. You get to pick your content and decide when to listen to it. The word podcast was coined only about three years ago as iPods were taking off as people began recording diatribes on various topics and posting them on their blogs. About a year and half ago podcasts became mainstream when Apple added a free podcasting section to iTunes. Not only was it free, but it was easy become listed. The number of podcasts exploded. Today on iTunes you can find traditional radio segments, want-a-be talk show hosts, Stanford lectures, and numerous K-12 examples. In the beginning the creation was a bit of a hassle, but with the inclusion of a podcast feature in Apple's Garage Band, it has never been easier.

How to...

I'll be honest, I haven't done a podcast. I listen to them. And I've even been podcasted, twice in fact, but never was part of the production process. With that said, we will walk through the iTunes podcast section then I will point you to several links that will help you if you are interested in pursuing it with your students.
